Adam Nelson
Adam gives his birth as West Calder in the 1881 census, but he is listed as being born in Duns in Berwickshire, by his parents in 1871. I have not been able to find any trace of his birth but feel it is likely that his parents were correct. Adam probably grew up in West Calder and perhaps thought that he was born there. His sister was born in Berwickshire as her birth is recorded in the Statuatory records. I have estimated Adam's birth date from the 1871 census as it is likely to be more accurate than the 1881 one. In 1891 he gives a birth county of Ayrshire (where many of his family were from) but a borders town (close to where he was born. The family seemed to have moved a lot so perhaps confusion about where they were born. Ages and places differ in all census records - enough consistencies to make me relatively sure they are the right people though.
